Dr. Brandon K. Suedekum, M.D.

Dr.Suedekum PicBrandon K. Suedekum, M.D. is a Diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology and completed his fellowship at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute at the University of Miami in Miami, Florida. This subspecialty period is an additional one year program above and beyond the usual training for ophthalmologists. Dr. Suedekum earned his three year residency in Ophthalmology at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. He completed a one year internship in Internal Medicine at Fairview Hospital, and affiliate of the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio. He earned his Medical Degree ( M.D.) from the University of Missouri-Kansas City, in Kansas City, Missouri. Dr. Suedekum has been involved in both basic science and clinical research and has completed an externship at the National Eye Institute at the National Institutes of Health. He has a special interest in the immunology of allograft rejection after corneal transplantation surgery and the genetic basis of Fuchs Endothelial Corneal Dystrophy. He was awarded the Resident Research Award while at Case Western Reserve University. He has given lectures and presentations at national and international ophthalmology meetings on these subjects and has published multiple articles in United States ophthalmology journals. He has served as a manuscript reviewer for the journal Cornea.

Dr. Suedekum is fluent in Spanish and has performed health-related services in Mexico. He travels extensively and enjoys amateur photography. He is an accomplished jazz saxophonist and has performed and taught at several jazz academies in Europe. He has served as a coordinator of jazz performances at the annual American Academy of Ophthalmology Joint Meeting.
